Enhancements in Profitability and Cost ManagementThe following sections briefly describe features and enhancements that are available in the currentrelease.Certification MatrixInformation about system requirements for EPM System products is now available in a spreadsheet format in theOracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Certification Matrix. This matrix is posted erion-supported-platforms.html. System requirements are nolonger part of the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation Start Here, whichcontains information about release compatibility, prerequisites, default ports, and other information needed to plana successful installation.Although this release of Oracle Hyperion Profitability and Cost Management, Fusion Edition is in English only, other products in this release support non-English languages. See the list of supported languages for all EPMSystem products that is included in the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management SystemCertification Matrix.Support for Additional Operating SystemsIn addition to the supported operating systems in Release 11.1.1, the following operating systems arenow supported in Profitability and Cost Management: HP-UX 11i with PA.RISC processor Solaris with SPARC processorsThese operating systems are supported for Browser-based clients only: Oracle Enterprise Linux 32-bit version (4.0.x to 5.0 client) Redhat Linux 32-bit version (AS/EL 4.0.x to AS/EL 5.0.x client)For detailed instructions on planning and configuring your installation, see the following guides: Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and ConfigurationGuide Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation Start HereRenaming of Some Profitability and Cost Management Dimension and MemberPropertiesSome Profitability and Cost Management property names were modified in this release, as shown onthe following table:Original Property emberConsolidationLABEL ONLYDYNAMIC CALCSHARED MEMBERSTORE DATADYNAMIC CALC AND STORENEVER SHAREIGNOREADDITIONRevised Property amicCalcAndStoreNeverShare
E*/%DenseSparseFor a complete list of all Profitability and Cost Management properties, see the Oracle HyperionProfitability and Cost Management Administrator’s Guide.Account and Entity Dimension TypesTwo EPM Architect dimension types are now available for use in Profitability and Cost Management: The Account dimension type contains chart of account type information, such as Net Incomeand Sales, in applications. The Entity dimension type provides entity or organizational structures in applications.Only one dimension of each type may exist in a model. For additional information on dimension types, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise PerformanceManagement Architect Administrator’s Guide.Time, Country and Currency DimensionsTime, Country and Currency dimensions are available in EPM Architect for use in Profitability and CostManagement applications; however, these dimensions are not validated during the Profitability andCost Management deployment.See the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management Architect Administrator’s Guide.Excluded from Modeling Property RemovedAllocation Measures in a Profitability and Cost Management model are used internally by theapplication, and are not modeling dimensions. Previously, they had to be set as excluded frommodeling calculations in the Dimension Library. With this release, it is no longer required to mark Allocation Measures as “excluding from modeling” inthe Dimension Library Property Grid. For additional information, see the Oracle Hyperion Profitabilityand Cost Management Administrator’s Guide.Reordering ChildrenFor all business dimensions in the model, you must reorder the list of members to display NoMember asthe last member; otherwise, validation of the model will fail. You can also reorder members to suityour particular requirements.Note: This step is not required for system dimensions, such as Alias, AllocationType, Measures,Periods, Scenarios or Years. For additional information, see the Oracle Hyperion Profitability and Cost Management Administrator’sGuide.Dimension Sort Order PropertyThe new Dimension Sort Order property must be set on all dimensions within a model. This propertycontrols the order of dimensions in the Essbase outline that is generated by Profitability and CostManagement. The sort order must be set. If the sort order is left blank, the validation will fail.
As a best practice, the Dimension Sort Order should be set in ascending order, based on the size of thedimension. For example, set the sort sequence from the smallest dimension to the largest dimension. This setting ensures that the dimensions are set in optimal order in the Essbase outline for thisProfitability and Cost Management application. The Dimension Sort Order property is set in EPM Architect, and passed on to Profitability and CostManagement during deployment for use in generating the Essbase outline. The following restrictions apply when setting the Dimension Sort Order property A dimension sort order must be set for every dimension in the model, except Alias and UDA.Note: The Alias and UDA dimensions are ignored for Dimension Sort Order, as they do not existas dimensions in Profitability and Cost Management, and Essbase. The dimension sort order must be sequential Measure dimension is set to 1, by default. AllocationType dimension is set to 2, by default Business and POV dimensions must be set to 3 or higher. Attribute dimensions must always be sorted as the last dimensions. For example, if you havefour attribute dimensions in a sequence of 12 dimensions, the attribute dimensions must be setas 9, 10, 11, and 12For instructions on setting the Dimension Sort Order property, and the accompanying restrictions, seethe Oracle Hyperion Profitability and Cost Management Administrator’s Guide.New Driver MeasuresTwo new driver measures have been added to the AllocationMeasures hierarchy in this release: Unit Cost – The formula uses the amount of cost at a source intersection, divided by a userinput quantity to calculate the cost per unit.UnitCost NetCostForAssignment/Quantity CostPerDrvUnit – This formula uses the assigned cost, divided by the sum of all driver values tocalculate the cost for each unit of driver value.CostPerDrvUnit CostAssigned/TotalDriverValueSee Appendix A, Measures Dimension, in the Oracle Hyperion Profitability and Cost Management User’sGuide for more information.AliasesAliases are now available in Profitability and Cost Management, to provide an alternate name, description, language, or other item to define dimensions. For example, you may refer to a customernumber in the system, but you can assign an alias that displays the company name to make it easierto identify that client. One or more aliases can be assigned to accounts, currencies, entities, scenarios, periods, versions, years, and user-defined dimension members. You can view the alias on all screens that use the Common Member Selector, including DriverSelections, Assignments, Data Entry, Driver Exceptions and Traceability. Search and filtering on aliasesis not currently available.
If you select Show Alias from the Context Menu, and no alias has been assigned, [noalias] isdisplayed in the list of members. For Profitability and Cost Management, the alias must be set in EPM Architect. For detailed instructionson creating Alias dimensions, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management ArchitectAdministrator’s Guide.Validating the ApplicationThere are several new model validations that have been added for this release: There is only one dimension of type Account. There is only one dimension of type Entity. NoMember must be set as the last member for all business dimensions. This requirement doesnot apply to Alias, AllocationType, Measures, Periods, Scenarios or Years. NoMember must be set to Ignore ( ) in the Property Grid. Dimension Sort Order has been set for the model. A sequential dimension sort order must beset for every dimension in the model, except Alias and UDA dimensions. See the OracleHyperion Profitability and Cost Management Administrator’s Guide for more information. A duplicate dimension member does not exist in the same dimension. This validation does notapply to Measures, Allocation Type and POV dimensions. For additional information, see the Oracle Hyperion Profitability and Cost Management Administrator’sGuide.Changes in Creating a Profitability and Cost Management ApplicationWhen creating a Profitability and Cost Management Application, the following changes have beenimplemented: The path to create a new application has been modified.1. From the Navigate icon, select Administer, and then Application Library.2. From the Application Library, select File, then New, and then Application to create a newProfitability and Cost Management application. See the Oracle Hyperion EnterprisePerformance Management Architect Administrator’s Guide for detailed instructions. The children in all dimensions must be reordered to move NoMember to the bottom of the list;otherwise, the validation will fail. When deploying an application from EPM Architect, it is no longer necessary to set propertiesfor all Allocation Measures to “Excluded from Modeling.” This is now done automatically. Ensure duplicate dimension members do not exist in the same dimension.Traceability EnhancementsWhen tracing allocations, you can now select different ways to view the information, as follows: Tracing Allocation DetailAllocation Detail enables you to follow allocations, step-by-step, directly from a sourceintersection to its ultimate destination, or from a destination intersection to its source. Theintersections that contribute to, or receive value from, the starting point show the stage andassociated members.
Tracing Allocation FlowThe Allocation flow displays the source and destination intersections that have an indirectrelationship, rather than a direct assignment, to the selected intersection. For example, youmay have values from Stage 1 allocated to Stage 3, without any intermediate steps. Byfollowing the flow of each allocation, you can examine the contributions from the source at eachstep, to understand the impact of an allocation on its ultimate source or destination. For instructions on tracing allocations, and the formulas that apply to each option, see the OracleHyperion Profitability and Cost Management Administrator’s Guide.Change in Dimension Staging TablesThe dimension staging tables are no longer available. All dimensions must be created and managed inEPM Architect. For detailed instructions, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance ManagementArchitect Administrator’s Guide.Importing Assignment Rule SelectionA new HPM STG ASGN RULE SELECTION staging table stores details about the source stage anddimension members for a rule, and is used to import assignment rule selections. To import the assignment rule selection, from the Task Area, select Manage Models, then ImportStaging Tables. Create an import configuration, and select the Assignment Rule selection table to beimported. For detailed instructions, see the Oracle Hyperion Profitability and Cost Management Administrator’sGuide.Redeployment LimitationsFor Level-0 members, you can add, rename, re-parent or delete individual members, multiplemembers, or combinations of members; however, these actions are not currently available for nonLevel-0 members.Lifecycle Management ChangesWhen the models are imported using Lifecycle Management, the new application replaces the targetapplication. If you are using Lifecycle Management to import large models, the import may take longer to processthan the time specified in the default timeout settings on WebLogic or the Oracle Application Server. To work around this issue, you must reset the default timeout settings for the appropriate server. For instructions on the default timeout settings for WebLogic and Oracle Application Server, see theLifecycle Management chapter in the Oracle Hyperion Profitability and Cost ManagementAdministrator’s Guide.File Generation UtilityThe File Generation Utility is a component of EPM Architect, such as libraries and Data Sync. It is nowenabled for Profitability, and it is used to import or export Profitability and Cost Managementapplications from EPM Architect. To select a Profitability and Cost Management application as a source:1. Select the From EPMA Application tab.2. Enter the name of the Profitability and Cost Management application, and the details for therequired parameters. The .ads file is generated from the selected Profitability and Cost Management application.
For information, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management ArchitectAdministrator’s Guide.Audit FeatureYou can monitor activity and changes in your application using the Audit feature in the Shared ServicesConsole, and then generate audit reports detailing the results. The audit reports contain activity details for the selected audit area, including the followinginformation: Date Application User Artifact type and name Task that was performedThere are three types of audit reports available, including Security Reports, Artifact Reports and ConfigReports. These reports can be exported as .CSV files. For instructions on generating audit reports, seethe Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Security Administration Guide.Auditing must be enabled before you can generate any reports. See the Oracle Hyperion Profitabilityand Cost Management Administrator’s Guide for additional information.Database ViewsAn Administrator can create new database views in the system database that mirror the columns usedin the staging tables, showing the model data that is stored in the system: Stages (HPM STG STAGE) POVs (HPM STG POV) Drivers (HPM STG DRIVER) Driver Selections (HPM STG DRIVER SELECTION) Assignments (HPM STG ASSIGNMENT) Assignment Rules (HPM STG ASGN RULE SELECTION)The database views are currently available using MS SQL Server and Oracle databases. You must run aseparate query for each database view that you want to create. To create database views:1. After installing the Release 11.1.1.1.01 service fix, locate the Database Views in thefollowing default location for your database type: HYPERION HOME r HYPERION HOME /products/Profitability/database/Common/Oracle3. Run a query to create a database view against your Profitability database.4. Open the view to display all columns for the view, and associated data.5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each view you want to create.
Assignment RulesWith this release, it is now possible to edit an existing assignment rule and save it as a new rule.Previously, only the content of a rule could be changed, but you can now change both the rule nameand its contents. Using the new Save As option, you can create rules as follows: Edit existing rule, and save as new rule. Edit existing rule, and modify its contents, and rename the rule.To save an existing assignment rule as a new rule:1. From Task Areas, select Manage Allocations, and then Assignments.2. Select the assignment rule that is to be copied or modified, and click the Edit button.3. Optional: If required, modify the selections for the assignment rule.4. Under Rule Name, enter the name of the new rule.5. Click Save As to save the rule under the new name.6. Click Finish. The new rule is displayed under Available Rules.Changes to Profitability and Cost Management MetadataWith this release of Profitability and Cost Management, the following changes have been applied formetadata: The consolidation for NoMember members is now set to “ ” (Ignore). The following new members have been added under AllocationType to accommodate thecalculation of genealogy with intrastage ons is at the same generation as SysAllocVar1 and SysAllocVar2.DirectAllocation and GenealogyAllocation are children of AllAllocations.CAUTION:These are system variables, used internally for intrastage calculations. DO NOT modifythese members.POV DeleteA Delete tab has been added to the POV Manager screen to provide users with the means to easilydelete all assignments and driver associations for a selected POV, layer and list of stages. To delete POVs and their associated assignments and drivers:1. From Task Areas, select Manage Model, and then POV Manager to display the Manage POVsscreen.2. Select the Delete tab.
3. Under POV, select the Year, Period, and Scenario of the POV you want to delete. By default, theStatus is set to “Draft."4. Under Stages, select one or more source stages to be removed.5. Under Delete Configuration, select the elements of the configuration that are to be deleted: Layer (Cost or Revenue or both) Driver Selections (Rules or Exceptions or both) Assignments (Rules or Regular or both).6. Click Delete, and click OK to confirm the deletion. The selected records are removed. See hpm.logto view a record of the operation, including the selections and the number of records expunged.Intrastage Assignments in Genealogy CalculationsPreviously, when calculating genealogy data, it was impossible to calculate the value of intrastageassignments because there were missing links in the calculation path. With this release of Profitabilityand Cost Management, "virtual links" are created in the model to enable the required paths for thegenealogy algorithm. The virtual links are stored in the updated Essbase outline using the following new members: SysAllocVar1 stores the value on the virtual link, which is part of the value allocated to anothernode on the same stage, and already available in the DirectAllocation member. SysAllocVar2 is used to obtain a sum of the source links of DirectAllocation,GenealogyAllocation and SysAllocVar1.Essbase OutlineAll driver measures must be unique in the outline. Do not use the existing name of any driver measurein any dimension in the outline (including system, POV and business dimensions) as the name ofanother member; otherwise, the Data Entry screen will not properly display the values.Defects Fixed in this ReleaseThe following sections list the defects that have been fixed for this release: Profitability and Cost Management EPM Architect
Profitability and Cost ManagementThis section describes the main Profitability and Cost Management defects that have been fixed in thisrelease.DefectNumberDescription7627545With this release, allocation-based optimization level, full-matrix and source-basedoptimizations can be selected.Genealogy scripts are correctly generated using the new AllocationType 8775877837585223An exception is no longer displayed if the Save AR with filter for UDA with operation is“Not Equal.”On the Trace Allocations screen, the page count for the first page of the stageincorrectly displays zero (0) rather than 1.A UDA association is no longer present in the model after the UDA dimension isdeleted from the EPM Architect application. The correct member name is displayed when creating filters on UDA members.Driver associations are now correctly displayed when the “Show Alias” mode isselected.Filtering of drivers by name is available; however, it is not possible to filter drivers byUDA.Revenue allocations can now be correctly traced.
