CURRICULUM VITAEJACK TIGH DENNERLEIN1 September 2022Northeastern UniversityRobinson Hall Room 301360 Huntington AveBoston MA USA 02115Pronouns: he/himVoice: 1 617 373 MMARY:My research aims to protect and promote worker safety, health, and well-being throughunderstanding the impact that the design of both tools and workplace policies, programs, and practiceshave on health. Utilizing my training as an engineer, my approach to public health research usessystems-level models built in part from the theories of biomechanics, ergonomics, and organizationaland industrial psychology to examine this impact. My research at the Center for Work, Health, & Well-being, a NIOSH Total Worker Health Center ofExcellence examines workplace intervention and implementation research in construction, manufacturing, and transportation sectors. These interventions lead to changes in companies’ thinkingand practices related to the role of the conditions of work on worker safety, health, and well-being.Based on these experiences, we created guidelines and a framework for organizations to create aculture of health to protect workers. In 2020, we adapted these recommendations for essentialworkplaces to protect their workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. My research in human movement sciences, primarily in occupational biomechanics, has focused onhow the design of technology, specifically computer devices, affects upper extremity biomechanics(forces, muscle efforts, and postures) related to injury risk factors. We have examined the design ofchairs, workstations (sit-to-stand), keyboard, mice, and mobile computer technology. Findings from ourresearch have informed their design over the past 25 years. In exposure science, we have used wearable technology, including sensors designed anddeveloped in our laboratory to address several research questions. We demonstrated howpsychosocial factors increase exposure to physical risk factors for computer related musculoskeletaldisorders. We have evaluated wearable technology to predict spinal compression loads of workerslifting and carrying materials in real workplaces as well as integrated data from wearable sensors withmachine learning algorithms to identify and determine the different surface conditions related to slips, trips, and falls that people encounter while walking and working.EDUCATION:1986198919891996Mechanical EngineeringB.S.Mechanical EngineeringS.M.Advance Course in EngineeringMechanical EngineeringPh.D.State University of New YorkM.I.T.General ElectricUniversity of CaliforniaBuffalo, NYCambridge, MALynn, MABerkeley, CAHarvard UniversityCambridge, MAPOST-DOCTORAL TRAINING1997-1998 Mechanical Engineering
